Miguel Paredes Does Wynwood

Painting by Miguel ParedesSculpture by Miguel ParedesPainting by Miguel Parades

An Opening Night Reception that wowed me and as you know by now…I’m not easily wowed anymore. Paredes Fine Arts Studio invited Miami’s ART VIP’s to attend several openings in Wynwood recently and the hype wasn’t a PR scheme to lure innocent art lovers to yet another boring art show.  It was the real thing. Velvet rope, Guest list, DJ, Open Bar and Hot Art.

Gathering Moss

Howard Moss' PhotographsHoward Moss with Eduardo and wife Isabel Darosa

Howard Moss is a world class photographer, filmmaker and talented musician.  But in my non-humble opinion, his real claim to fame is that we’re longtime friends.  This gentle, philosophical man is a spiritual being who watches life’s finest moments as they go by and then frames his thoughts in B & W form, for all of us to appreciate. Howard has traveled extensively throughout West Africa, the Caribbean, Central & South America, Australia, Europe and French Polynesia documenting various facets of the countries and much of the surrounding underworld. Yes, his shots are taken above and below sea level.

…I’d like to get you to know Marguerite, because she is among the more interesting people in the arts today-and because she has managed to pull off the amazing feat of exploring all manners of human artistic expression. Marguerite was born in France, lived in New York, and then returned to France for colleges, where she received a Master’s degree in Civilization and Literature.  While there, she began working as a photographer for the French government and met her soon-to-be-husband, Robert, a talented architect.

Claire Fontaine: Economy at the MOCA through August 22, 2010

This exhibition explores the work of Paris-based artist Claire Fontaine.  Fontaine took her name form a popular brand of school notebooks and declared herself a “readymade artist” of 2004.  The exhibition will incorporate older works, including sculptures, light pieces, videos, text works as well as new interventions by Fontaine in addition to a screening area showing films and videos that have influenced her works.

Fontaine explores the politics, theorists, and artists of the 1960’s in Europe and the USA, playing with that legacy.

Art In The Middle of Nowhere

Works by Talia RodriguezArtist Donny Garcia Lisette Pubillones and Vlad Salaridze

Here’s an interesting concept for artists who want to show their paintings and sculptures without the constraints of a gallery environment. Vlad Salaridze, owner of the Nowhere Lounge and Event Space in South Beach, decided to open a “club” that is committed to the arts.  The place will cater to corporate clients as well as private parties and promises to grace the space with rotating artworks created by local artists.  Guests will be impressed by the state of the art lighting and the sounds produced in this unique alternative space. There’s a long bar at the entrance, smaller intimate lounge areas, plenty of seating and hundreds of square feet of wall space.
